Description Participant Requirements Benefits Expectations
 
Participants who are accepted into the ICLCS will receive the following intrinsic and extrinsic benefits:
  • Extended, in-depth content instruction from experts in the field
  • Stipend of $6,000 ($2,000 for each of three fully completed years of participation) in the ICLCS
  • Three graduate credit units for each fully completed year of participation; (9 semester hours in total) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
  • Guidance and support toward the National Board Certification as a Master teacher upon completion of the full three-year program.
  • Leading-edge curriculum modules featuring both traditional and 21 st Century content.
  • Equipment to provide access to the virtual ICLCS community (software, headset, webcam, technical support)
  • Materials and supplies to conduct chemistry laboratories during the Institute sessions.
  • Access to computational tools, resources, and technical support.
  • Free room and board during the Summer Institutes.
  • Access to mentors in the scientific and computational chemistry fields to assist in the implementation of modules in the classroom.
  • Extensive leadership and mentoring training.
  • Paid membership in the Illinois Science Teachers Association
School districts of teachers accepted into the program will receive the following:
  • National recognition from the National Science Foundation as a partner in the promotion of quality professional development through the ICLCS.
  • Invitation to participate in a Gala Event to kick off the program on the campus of the UIUC.
  • Opportunities for administrators to attend virtual presentations at their designated ROE by national leaders in education reform.
  • Reimbursement for substitutes for ICLCS Fellows when they are required to be away from the classroom (2-4 days during the academic year).
  • Teachers who are well-prepared to teach chemistry and who will impact students in the district.
